Gaffney police arrested a 17- year-old Gaffney man Wednesday for robbing the Sandwich Castle a week ago.

Detective Sgt. Ron Ramsey Jr. of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Giles Lee Palmer of New Street, Gaffney, with armed robbery. He remains at the Cherokee County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Palmer is accused of entering the Sandwich Castle, 508 S. Granard St., Gaffney, at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6. He demanded a 46-year-old woman give him the money in the cash register, pointed a dark-colored semiautomatic handgun at the woman and three witnesses inside the business and took an unspecified amount of money, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Witnesses told police the suspect ran toward Granard Courts Apartments. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Bloodhound Tracking Team was able to follow the robber's scent to the apartment complex, but the scent was lost there.
