WHAT'S UP Community events The Antioch Community Center will have its annual chicken stew Saturday, Oct. 28. Hot dogs, desserts and drinks will also be sold. Eat in or carry out. Serving starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. The Antioch Community Center is located on Antioch Church Road, north of Blacksburg, just off Hwy. 29. The Lil' Soldiers for Christ of Youngs Grove Baptist Church, 222 Youngs Grove Road, Blacksburg, will host its first blood drive with the Piedmont Blood Center of Spartanburg on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall. Meetings Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All Post and Auxiliary members are urged to attend. Church news The Voice of Triumph Church, 179 Corry Road, Blacksburg, will have its sixth annual fall camp meeting Oct. 25-29. The theme is "Keeping the Vision." Guest speakers and musicians include "Big Mo" Ostrander of Dothan, Ala., Owen Cole of Dayton, Ohio, and Jay Price of Swannanoa, N.C. Services begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. and there will be two services daily Thursday through Sunday, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Meals and lodging are free. Pastors Ernest and Ann Rogers welcome the community. Halloween events New Beginnings Fellowship Church of Gaffney will have a Trick or Trunk on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6-9 p.m. There will be free hot dog plates, games for the children, amd lots of candy for trick or trunk. Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Spook House on Oct. 27-31. Admission is $6. To reach the house, take exit 100 on I-81 and go about one mile to Blackwell Road; the station is on the left. The 18th annual Bar H Haunted Hayride will be held Oct. 27-28 at the Bar H Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. The event begins at dark (approximately 7:30) and continues until. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Concessions are available from the Crawley Memorial Hospital Employee Activity Committee. A portion of the concession proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life. Discounts are given to groups of 10 or more if prearrangements are made at the Bar H office. For more information call 704-434- 2866. Special events A poker run is planned Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Veteran's Day Parade. Sign-up starts at 8 a.m. that day and continues until 9:30. Preregistration can be made at the VFW 3447. Prizes include $500 for the best hand and $250 for second best. The rider with the worst hand gets $100. Entry fee is $20, an extra hand is $10 and includes a t-shirt. Proceeds will go to help build the Veterans Appreciation Park. |
