Corps of Discovery tour of Kings Mountain Park is scheduled for Nov. 19 Kings Mountain National Military Park will have a special in-depth tour Sunday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants will receive a guided tour of the new museum exhibits, followed by a detailed battlefield tour. The tour will examine the old roads used by both armies, as well as the river crossing at the Cherokee Ford of the Broad River. On the battlefield itself, the group will follow in the footsteps of the attacking Americans and defending Loyalists, with an emphasis on recent archaeology and historical research. Interested persons should meet at the visitor center at 9 a.m. There will be a short drive to sites outside the park; the group will carpool as much as possible. The tour will also stop for lunch at a nearby restaurant (lunch is on your own). Participants will be outside most of the day walking on uneven ground, therefore good shoes, appropriate clothing, and bottled water are recommended. The tour will be strenuous; expect to walk several miles during the course of the day. The program will be cancelled in the event of rain. The tour is free and no reservations are necessary.
