Fund raisers

The Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., continues its craft sale until Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (weekdays)). Stop by and get an early start on your Christmas shopping and help support the senior center.

Midway Baptist Church is sponsoring a fund raising dinner Saturday from 6-8 p.m. for a mission trip to Mexico in 2007. Donations for the meal are $10 and the menu includes hamburger steak, baked potato, salad, dessert and tea. Eat in or take out. All proceeds will go toward purchasing materials for building churches in Mexico. For tickets call 489-8020.

A turkey shoot will be held Saturdays, Nov. 11 and 18, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at Camps Creek Baptist Church, located off Hwy. 150 south of Boiling Springs, N.C. Breakfast biscuits and drinks will be available. The event is a fund raiser for the Camps Creek Baptist Church Mission Team. For information, call 704-434-2354 or 704-434-2728.

Special events

A poker run is planned Saturday at the Veteran's Day Parade. Sign-up starts at 8 a.m. that day and continues until 9:30. Pre-registration can be made at the VFW 3447. Prizes include $500 for the best hand and $250 for second best. The rider with the worst hand gets $100. Entry fee is $20 and an extra hand is $10; entry fee includes a t-shirt. Proceeds will go to help build the Veterans Appreciation Park.

Church news

The YWAs of Bethel Baptist Church will sponsor a prayer breakfast Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8:30 a.m. in the church dining hall. Guest speaker will be Minister Princess Smith, associate minister of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church. Donations are $5 per person.

The Deaconess Ministry of Bethel Baptist Church will sponsor its annual program Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. worship services. Deaconesses will be in charge of the pulpit services. Speaker will be minister Juanita Dewberry, associate minister of Bethel Baptist Church.

Antioch Baptist Church will have its fall bazaar at the Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Biscuits and gravy will be served from 8-10 a.m. and hot dogs and crafts will be sold from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets for door prizes can be purchased for $1 each.

Gowdeysville Baptist Church is an ongoing host site for the Angel Food Ministry, a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. Anyone can purchase a box of groceries for $25; the retail value is approximately $60. One box will feed a family of four for a week or a family of one for a month. Each month the menu changes. You may purchase as many boxes as you wish. This is first quality food. Anyone can make a purchase and you can make your purchase with cash or Food Stamps (EBT). The Acteens of Corinth Baptist Church will hold a giant yard sale and bake sale Saturday, Nov. 11, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Old Gethsemane Church building past Moss' Mini Mart on Hwy. 18 South. They will have a lot of items including furniture, baby items, clothes, and more. All proceeds from the yard sale and bake sale will go towards a trip to Kansas City for the Acteens convention.

Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church will have a special service Sunday. At the 11 a.m. worship service, veterans will be recognized. There will be a special visual presentation remembering and honoring those who have served our country. At the 6 p.m. service, educators and those who have served in many capacities of our school system will be recognized. Testimonies will be given by Terry Price, Jennifer Richards, Treva Wagoner, Marcia Duncan and Hope Smith. Mary Price will play a piano solo and Nanda Bedenbaugh will sing a solo. Dr. Clyde Thomas, pastor, welcomes the public to attend.

The Senior Choir of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 134th anniversary with a special program Sunday at 4 p.m. Speaker will be Dr. A.L. Brackett, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Gaffney and St. Paul Baptist Church in Union.

The Women's Missionary Society of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual prayer breakfast Saturday at 10 a.m. Speaker will be Minister Charlayne Davis, associate minister of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Gaffney.

Sunday evening community fellowship services will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 at Michael A. Glenn Chapel, 489 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Union. Guest speaker will be Minister Leslie Epps Johnson, associate minister of Rice Chapel AME Zion Church. Services will be held each second and fourth Sundays. For more information, call 864-427-2112.

Meetings

The Cherokee County Republican Women will meet Monday, Nov. 13, at 11:45 a.m. in Stephenson Dining Hall at

Limestone College. Boone Peeler, newly elected to the City Council, will be the guest speaker. Members and guests are invited to attend.

Education

The Cherokee County Adult/Community Education Program will offering a keyboarding class beginning Tuesday, Nov. 28. Participants will learn the entire computer keyboard, number pad and basic formatting formulas for documents such as letters, memos, resumes and charts.
