Couple found dead on beach

BLUFFTON - The bodies of a couple in their 60s have been found on a Hilton Head Island beach, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says.

The two people have not been identified, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Szpanka said.

The bodies were found early Sunday morning by people walking on the beach. The bodies were a short distance apart and appeared to have washed ashore, Szpanka said.

A cause of death was not immediately available. An autopsy was planned.

''We can't rule out foul play until we get the autopsy results,'' Szpanka said. ''From the naked eye, there is no signs of trauma or signs to indicate anyone else is involved.''

The man was described as white in his 60s, with gray hair, a gray, well-grown mustache and weighing about 275 pounds. The woman is described as white in her 60s, with brownish-grey hair in a ponytail; she weighed between 275 and 300 pounds.
