Suspect turns himself in FLORENCE - A Dillon County man charged in a dog attack that left a 10-year-old boy dead has turned himself in to authorities. Bentley Collins, 53, surrendered Friday morning at the Dillon County jail, a day after five of his six dogs were put to death, authorities said. Collins is charged with involuntary manslaughter and keeping unconfined, dangerous animals at his home. The body of John Matthew Davis was found in Collins' yard earlier this month after the boy failed to make it back to his house which was less than a mile away, Sheriff Harold Grice said. Investigators haven't determined why the boy was in the yard with the dogs. Authorities placed all six of the dogs, which appeared to be bull boxers, in the pound and got a court order to put them to death after one of the dogs was taken from its pen, Grice said. |
