Don Henson
Heavy equipment operator and diesel mechanic
      COWPENS - Don Edward (Popa) Henson, 61, of 419 Oakdale Road, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at his residence. Born in Asheville, N.C., he was the loving husband of Rhonda Jones Henson for 25 years and son of the late Austin T. Henson and Bonnie Henson. Mr. Henson was a heavy equipment operator, diesel mechanic and worked in construction.

Retired U.S. Army veteran
      SSgt. Samuel Harris Jr., 72, of 300 Block of West 30th St., Norfolk, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby. A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Margaret Harris and son of the late Samuel Harris Sr. and the late Honey Davis Harris. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Carrie Elmore, Lillie Mae Fair and Eunice Outlaw. SSgt.

      Ernest Daniel Bonner Jr., 41, of 335 Mill St., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at 9:30 p.m. at his home. Son of Mary Jefferies Bonner and Ernest Bonner Sr. of the home, he was a native of Cherokee County and a 1983 graduate of Gaffney Senior High School. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and employed by Tommy's Appliance Center.

      Lewis Mitchell Humphries, 72, of 1413 Boiling Springs Hwy., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Shirley Brown Humphries and son of the late Ophy Humphries and Bessie Parker Humphries. Mr. Humphries was retired from Vulcan Materials after working for 40 years.

      Robert Lee Petty, 73, of 3049 McCraw Road, Mooresboro, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at 5:36 p.m. at Hospice of Rutherford in Forest City, N.C. A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Verline Borders Petty and son of the late Gus Petty and the late Essie Oglesby Petty. He was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church and retired from Cone Mills.

      SHARON - Nancy Wells Thomson, 80, of 2367 Thomson Quarter Road, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Wallace Thomson Hospital, Union. A native of Sharon, she was born in Spindale, N.C., and was a daughter of the late William Russell Wells and the late Clara Logan Wells. She was the widow of William Park Thomson, a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Limestone College.
