A native of East Chicago, Ind., and a longtime resident of Calumet City, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Novak and Anna Hoffek Novak and wife of Melvin Gray.       Alice Irene Whittenburg, 65, of High Point, N.C., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, in High Point R e g i o n a l Hospital. Born in C h e r o k e e County, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Susie Hill Whittenburg. Early in life, she joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Gaffney and attended Gethsemane Baptist Church in High Point.
