Support the veterans Dear Editor: The Memorial Day weekend is May 26-27 and the members of District 8 Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary will be out distributing Buddy Poppies during this time. We will be distributing Buddy Poppies at several locations in Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties. We also distribute Buddy Poppies during Flag Day in June and the July 4th holiday. The following Post and Auxiliary members make up District 8: Post 3122 Union, Post 3447 Gaffney and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 4873 Landrum, Post 4941 Blacksburg and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 6385 Woodruff, Post 6938 Union, Post 8522 Wellford and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 9349 Spartanburg and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 9539 Spartanburg and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 10431 Gaffney and its Ladies Auxiliary, Post 11252 Chesnee and its Ladies Auxiliary. It would mean a great deal to these veterans if you gave a donation for a Buddy Poppy and thanked them for their service. Please remember that these veterans have fought for our freedom and some are still doing so. This is one of the reasons that we live in a free country and are able to continue to do so. We need to thank these veterans every time we see them. If you see one of these veterans out during this time please thank them for their services and please give a contribution to help the needy veterans in our area. The money stays in District 8 to help these needy veterans. In 1923, VFW became the first veterans organization to promote a nationally organized campaign for the annual distribution of Poppies, which are assembled by disabled or hospitalized veterans. More than 14 million Poppies are assembled today and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary members are distributing these poppies. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, founded in 1899, is the nation's oldest major veterans organization with more than 1.8 million members. Thank you for your support. God Bless you and God Bless America.
