BLACKSBURG - Jennie Elizabeth Michelle Whelchel and Joshua Adam Gordon were united in marriage on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Rock Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Brian Harris officiated the 1 p.m. double ring ceremony.
Jason Martin, Amy Pruitt and Abby Pruitt formed a trio and sang
Bless The Broken Road," by Rascal Flatts. Bill Parker Jr. performed "I Will Be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman. Harpist Lynn Sisk rendered a medley of nuptial music, including "Bridal Chorus."
The altar of the sanctuary was enhanced with a 15-branch fan candelabra, and arrangements of white roses and the unity candle. The windows were graced with white carnations and greenery and the reserved pews were trimmed with white roses and greenery. The railings on the church porch were accented with assorted white flowers, tulle and greenery.
Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride was attended by Summer Nicole McDaniel of Gaffney as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jessica Nicole Parker of Blacksburg, Emily Victoria Parker of Boiling Springs, N.C., Tamara Lynn Walker of Shelby and Wendy Earle Collins of Boiling Springs, S.C., cousins of the bride; Amanda Gordon Gilfillan of Blacksburg, sister of the groom; Elizabeth Mauldin Towery of Blacksburg and Kristen Kelly Fitzgerald of Gaffney.
Junior bridesmaids were Dianna Page Gilfillan, niece of the groom, and Jada Kathryn Mayes, cousin of the bride, both of Blacksburg.
The attendants wore ice blue gowns with chiffon overlays and carried hand-tied bouquets of white roses and greenery.
Olivia Glenn Harris of Blacksburg was the flower girl. She wore a floor-length sleeveless white dress with a chiffon overlay trimmed with sequins, pearls and rhinestones. A tiara of rhinestone and pearls adorned her hair and she carried a basket of white flower petals.
Jason Ryan Gilfillan of Blacksburg, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.
The groom was attended by his father as best man. Groomsmen were Matthew Scott Gordon, brother of the groom, Brian Delmus Whelchel and Paul Michael Whelchel, brothers of the bride, Jason Edward Gilfillan, brother-inlaw of the groom, all of Blacksburg; Jonathan Nathaniel Ziegler of Gaffney, cousin of the groom; Michael Brandon Towery of Blacksburg; and Billy Ray Phillips of Aynor.
Junior groomsmen were Aron Tyler Walker of Shelby and Zachary Thomas Parker, cousin of the bride, of Boiling Springs, N.C.
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception, given by the bride's parents, followed in the church fellowship building. Family and friends assisted in serving refreshments.
Mrs. Gordon is the daughter of Paul and Bebe Whelchel of Blacksburg. Her grandparents are the late Bill Parker Sr., the late Jennie Mae Parker, the late Basil Whelchel Sr. and the late Elizabeth Childers. A 2003 graduate of Blacksburg High School, she attends Limestone College and expects to graduate in May 2007 with a B.A. degree in psychology.
Mr. Gordon is the son of Scott and Linda Gordon of Blacksburg and grandson of Lillian Gordon of Gaffney, Margaret Hampton of Blacksburg, the late Floyd Gordon an the late Jack Hampton. A 2000 graduate of Blacksburg High School, he received a B.S. degree in mathematics from Francis Marion University in 2004 and expects to graduate in 2006 from Piedmont Technical College. He is employed by Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg.
The couple are making their home in Blacksburg after a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn.
