Christmas services

¦ Limestone Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Christmas Eve candlelight service Dec. 24 beginning at 5 p.m. The service consists of Christmas hymns and scripture readings by members of the congregation. The public is invited to attend this very special service.

¦ Limestone Street United Methodist Church Choir will present its Christmas cantata, “One Small Child,” on Dec. 24 at the 11 a.m. service. A Christmas Eve candlelight communion service will begin at 5 p.m. The church is located at 910 N. Limestone St. and everyone is invited to come join in the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child.

¦ A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road. Dress is casual.

¦ Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O’Neal St., will have a drop-in Christmas Eve communion service on Dec. 24 from 5-6 p.m. Each family or individual will be served communion privately. Come and leave any time during this hour.

¦ The Shady Grove Baptist Church Sunday School and Youth Department will present their annual Christmas program Sunday at 10 a.m. There will be a short play, "Where is Christmas?"

¦ Draytonville Baptist Church, 170 Draytonville Church Road, will have a Christmas Eve communion service Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.

¦ Sunday Evening Community Fellowship Services will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 24 at Michael A. Glen Chapel, 489 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy. Guest speaker will be Della Hill of St. Paul Baptist Church.

¦ The Youth Department of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor its annual Christmas program Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. The youths will present a play, “The Biggest Christmas Present Ever” by James Lueers.

¦ Bethel Baptist Church will present a live nativity scene today from 7-9 p.m. in front of the gymnasium. There will be singing and other activities.

¦ Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 503 Cherokee Falls Road, Blacksburg, will have a candlelight communion service Dec. 24 at 9 a.m. in the fellowship building. Everyone is invited to join in worship.

Holiday schedules

¦ Iron City Ministries in Blacksburg will be closed Dec. 23-Jan. 2 for Christmas and New Year's. ICM will be open Wednesday, Jan. 3.

¦ The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection, Recycling and Landfill departments will be closed today and Monday. You may use extra containers on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1 for any overflow. Solid Waste Collection, Recycling and Landfill will be in full operation on New Year’s Day.

¦The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 as holidays. The Dec. 25 route will be picked up Wednesday, Dec. 27, and the Jan. 1 route will be picked up on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Residents are asked to have their carts out on the curbside by 7 a.m. on these days.

Church events

¦ Bishop H.L. Jones and Way of Life Praise and Worship Center invite the public to the initial sermon of Jonathan “Buddy” Dawkins, son of Ethel Wilson. A student at Spartanburg College, he will be at Mitchell Chapel F.B.H. Church on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 5 p.m.
