Senior Center events
¦ If you like to knit or crochet, "Hooks and Needles with Love" needs your help. Red scarves are needed by Friday, Jan. 26, to be shipped to Virginia for Valentine bags to be given to orphans attending college. Also, by Friday, Feb. 9, 65 hats or scarves are needed to be sent out in Valentine bags to homebound clients of the Gaffney Senior Center. The center recently donated over 100 baby hats to the Pregnancy Center, 200 baby hats to Warm Up America, 32 baby hats to Upstate Carolina Medical Center, and over 30 baby hats to the neonatal care unit at Spartanburg Regional. ¦ The Gaffney Senior Center will be holding a sterling silver heart ear ring class on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 10- 11 a.m. Cost is $10 which includes cost of making one set of ear rings. No experience is needed. Call Joan Wood, 487-2725, to register.
¦ The Gaffney Senior Center will have a yard sale Saturday, Feb. 10, from 7-11 a.m. to benefit the American Red Cross' campaign for items needed by military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. Proceeds will be used to buy the suggested items from the Red Cross list. You can help by donating yard sale items Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave. A tax receipt can be given if needed. Most important is remembering to come shop the yard sale on Feb. 10. For more information, call Joan Wood, 487-2725.
Meetings
¦ Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have their monthly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All post and auxiliary members are urged to attend.
Church events
¦ A gospel singing will be held at Kings Creek Church of God on Hwy. 5, Mullinax Circle, Blacksburg, Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go the church building fund. Hot dogs will be sold from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and again immediately after the singing. Singers will include Bruce Henderson, Patty Thomas, Joe and Debra Sharpe, Josh Henderson and Loretta Black.
¦ The Music Department of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual Musical Extravaganza on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. Some of the special guests on hand will be the Rev. Heyward Boyd, Sister Mary Ann Wilkins, the Royal Six Quartet, Sister Debra K. Haney Byars, Jawarris Blanton and others. Choir members in the community are invited to come be a part of the choir. ¦ The Ushers' Ministry of Suck Creek Baptist Church will be sponsoring a meal for $7 per person immediately after morning worship services on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Family Life and Recreation Center, off Hwy. 11. The menu includes turkey, dressing and gravy, roast, green beans, collards, macaroni and cheese, rice, yams, rolls, pound cake and apple desert, tea or water. ¦ The North Carolina Family Caregivers Support Program provides relief so caregivers can have a break, take a vacation, keep appointments, re-energize, or have time alone. "You give better care when you take care of yourself," said Anzie Horn, director of Care Solutions, the care management agency that administers the support program in Cleveland County.
