SAYING GOODBYE TO 'DANNY MAC'

Blacksburg Assistant Fire Chief Clay Greer leads a funeral procession for Blacksburg Town Administrator and Fire Chief Danny McDaniel from Broad River Baptist Church to Mountain View Cemetery. Fire trucks lined Cherokee Street and two ladder trucks held a large American flag spanning the roadway for the procession to pass under. McDaniel, 51, served as fire chief of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years and had been with the department for 30 years. He had worked with the Town of Blacksburg for 12 years, becoming the town's administrator in the summer of 2005. He died just after midnight Saturday. Nearly 500 people attended the funeral.
