Child Find wants to help special needs kids succeed Child Find is looking for children - not for missing children, but children who may be missing out on special education services they need to help them be successful in school. If there appears to be a delay in any area of your child's development, you can seek assistance from Child Find. Even if your child is not yet school age, your child may need screening and evaluation services. Child Find looks to parents, grandparents, teachers, physicians, and caregivers to help locate children who may have special needs. The purpose of pre-school programming for children with special needs is to provide early intervention services for the child. This early intervention may prevent some developmental disabilities from becoming more severe. If your child appears to have special education needs and has not been identified, Child Find can help. Child Find services are for families of children with special needs aged birth through 21 years. Some children are born with, or may acquire physical and/or mental conditions which interfere with their normal growth and development. Fortunately, many problems can be helped or corrected if parents recognize the problems early and seek help. Screenings for vision, hearing, speech and language, and developmental delays are provided by the Cherokee County School District administered by trained personnel, and are free of charge. If you have or know a child who doesn't talk or who can't be understood; a child who is uncoordinated or has difficulty in walking, sitting, standing, or using his hands; a child who is always unhappy or is demonstrating unsatisfactory relationships with peers or parents; a child who has difficulty learning in school; and would like more information, call Special Services at the Cherokee County School District Office, 902- 3578. There are also pamphlets, literature, and referral information in your local doctor's office, day care center, or neighborhood school. |
