Daisy Faucett celebrating 100th birthday today
Birthday party planned Saturday at Brookview
Daisy Faucett Daisy Coleman McConnell Faucett will celebrate her 100th birthday today, Feb. 2, 2007.
Mrs. Daisy was the third of 11 children of Preston and Charlotte Sims Coleman. She was born in Fairfield County on Feb. 2, 1907.
She grew up on a farm and attended grade school. In 1923, at the age of 16, she was joined in marriage to Mark McConnell to whom she was married for 29 years until his passing in 1954.
Mrs. Daisy did domestic work for different families in Gaffney until 1970. She started work at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church and retired there after 10 years of service in 1980.
In 1974, she married Deacon Julius Faucett. They were married for 26 years until his passing in 2000.
Mrs. Faucett didn't have any children but was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews, whom she helped raise as her own. She has three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren from her marriage to Mr. Faucett.
She is a resident at Brookview HealthCare Center, where she is alert and rolls her wheelchair up and down the hall singing her favorite hymns. She enjoys visits from her family, church family and pastor and still reads her Bible and newspaper daily and watches TV.
She is a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church in Blacksburg.
When asked her secret for a long life, she said, "Hard work along with faith and trust in the Good Lord to take care of me."
Mrs. Faucett will be honored with a birthday celebration Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brookview.
