North Carolina native

SPARTANBURG - Keith Eldred Smith, 47, of Apt. 202, Archibald Building, North Church Street, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 29, 2007, at 11:48 a.m. at his residence.

Son of Nancy Camp Smith Carpenter of Spartanburg and the late James F. Smith, he was a native of Draper, N.C. Educated in Gaffney and Spartanburg School System, he was a graduate of Morris College in Sumter. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Eden, N.C.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Gerald Smith of Kathleen, Ga., Freeman Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., and Reginald Carpenter of Columbus, Ohio; Derek Smith of Great Mills, Md., who was reared as a brother; two sisters, Janis Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Terri Smith of Hyde Park, Mass.

Service will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcell Bush officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Body will lie instate from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Monica Hames, Margie Knuckles, Alberta Wheeler, Katherine Logan, Terry Littlejohn, William Camp, Charles Hames, Minister Larry Hames and Elijah Inabinette.

The family is at the home of his mother, Nancy C. Smith Carpenter, 307 Crestview St., Spartanburg.
