That's the cure for the Gaffney Indians' ailing offense.

Gaffney shot just 32 percent from the field in a four-point loss to visiting Boiling Springs on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Indians out of first place in the region standings. Gaffney is 7- 3, one-half game behind Spartanburg.

The Indians face visiting Mauldin today. The Mavericks are in fourth place at 5-4.

"We have to shoot better," Gaffney coach Mark Huff said. "We need to take good shots and not be in a hurry."

Especially against the Mavericks, who play a similar deliberate style to Boiling Springs. The Mavericks use a 1-3-1 zone to slow the tempo.

"We have to be patient against their zone," Huff said. "We weren't the first time."

Huff said the Indians must also do a better of containing the Mavericks' inside players, who scored a combined 30 points in the first matchup.

"They aren't that big but we didn't do a good job on post defense," he said.

Despite the huge effort of the Mavericks' inside players, it was Miles Maddon who was the difference maker in the first matchup. He had four three-pointers, including the game winner with :03 remaining to give the Mavericks a 68-65 win.

Mauldin held a seemingly comfortable ninepoint lead heading into the final quarter. But the Indians rallied to tie the game behind the three-point shooting of Kobe Hollis and Johnny Woods. The Indians had a chance to take the lead but turned the ball over before Maddon's game-winner.

Huff said the Indians can't afford another loss if they want to catch Spartanburg for the region crown.

"I just don't see Spartanburg losing two of their last three games," he said.

The Vikings play Hillcrest today before finishing up against Byrnes and Dorman next week.

"It would be great for this team to win the region," Huff said. "We were in the drivers seat twice, but we still have a chance."
