People are repulsed by her sweating hands
      Dear Annie: All my life, I've suffered from palmar hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating of the hands. My condition is quite severe, and it has affected all areas of my life. As a child, I had to endure nasty comments from other children, and nicknames such as "Sprinkler" and "Rain Man" really put a damper on my self-confidence.

Limestone College joins local libraries in sponsoring reading contest for all ages
College's lacrosse team will give demonstration at library Feb. 8
      The Cherokee County Public Library and the Limestone College athletic program as cosponsoring a reading contest for all ages. From Feb. 8 through March 31, participants can "Team Up to Read" with a person of their choice by completing a registration form at the main library in Gaffney or at the library in Blacksburg.

New cervical cancer vaccine topic of UCMC Health Talk
      Upstate Carolina Medical Center will host a free public HealthTalk on Gardasil, the only vaccine that may help guard against cervical cancer, on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the hospital's cafeteria from 6-7 p.m. Gaffney-based obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Steven Lewis will be the speaker.

      Robert E. and Marie Prevatte celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Jan. 14, 2007. Mrs. Prevatte is the former Helen Marie Ostergaard of Fresno, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Prevatte are the parents of Sherry Brown of Gaffney, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Prevatte of Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Kirby of Gaffney and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Prevatte of Moore. They have five grandchildren.

      Heritage Christian School held its homecoming on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Megan Harris, daughter of Billy and Sarah Harris of Gaffney, was voted Miss Heritage and Kevin Kiser, son of Brett and Cathy Kiser of Bessemer City, N.C., was voted Mr. Heritage.

AAUW meeting highlights integration in local schools
      The Gaffney Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will have a luncheon meeting Monday, Feb. 12, at noon at the House of Pizza on East Frederick Street. Integration in Cherokee County schools took place almost 40 years ago in the fall of 1968.

WHAT'S UP
Community events
      .Lost Penny Day is held each year on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, Feb. 12. The purpose of the special day is to collect pennies that have been forgotten about (like in pockets, car floorboards, sofas, etc.) and donate them to a local charity.
