For the second time in two months, the Gaffney High football team will be traveling to Columbia.

Instead of playing in Williams-Brice Stadium, the Gaffney Indians will be visiting the State House on Wednesday.

State Rep. Dennis Moss (DGaffney) said he will be presenting the Class 4A Division I state champions with a resolution celebrating their undefeated season. Local Reps. Olin Phillips (D-Gaffney) and Lanny Littlejohn (R-Spartanburg) cosponsored the resolution.

"I think 15-0 is a great accomplishment for the coaches, players, students, school and community," Moss said. "This is a way to honor them and to acknowledge their accomplishment."

The resolution, in part, reads: "Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Phil Strickland and the members of the Gaffney High School Varsity Football team capped an incredible season by winning the 2006 Division I AAAA state championship; and whereas, fiercely competitive, the team was virtually unstoppable during regular season play, setting a school record of 15 wins in one season."

The resolution continues, "Whereas, ranked 11th in the entire nation, the Gaffney High School Varsity Football team brings positive recognition not only upon itself but upon our State as well for its amazing prowess on and off the field."

The resolution concludes, "Be it resolved by the House of Representatives that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Gaffney High School Indians Varsity Football team for its outstanding win of the 2006 Division I AAAA state championship, and honor the players and their coach, Phil Strickland, on an exceptional, record-breaking season."

The team should be presented with the proclamation shortly after the session begins at 10 a.m. The ceremony can be viewed on the internet by clicking on the house-media player icon on SChouse.org, Moss said.
