Sign fees waived by city
Nonprofit organizations in the City of Gaffney will no longer have to pay a fee to publicize fundraising events.
Gaffney City Council unanimously passed first reading of an ordinance to waive sign permit fees for charitable events sponsored by nonprofit organizations.
Previously, the organizations had to either pay a sign permit fee or make a request to council to waive the fee.
The proposal has the blessing of the city's Planning Commission.
"This simply will change the fees for nonprofits like when the National Cancer Society wants to publicize a barbecue," Gaffney City Administrator James Taylor said. "This is an attempt to assist charitable organizations whose monies go to help those in need."
