Dustin Byars and the Blacksburg Wildcats lost a heartbreaker Friday.

Byars scattered nine hits and didn't allow a run after the second inning in a 4-2 loss at home to region rival Broome on Friday.

"I'm disappointed because Dustin pitched a great game," Blacksburg coach Toby Elliott said. "But we just couldn't get any offense. He's pitched very well in the two games he's pitched for us."

Shawn Finley swung the hot bat for the Centurions with two hits and two RBIs.

Matt Linder and Jason Biershenk had the other RBIs for Broome.

Cameron Byars had the only two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Jacob Anderson struck out seven and allowed four hits to pick up the win.

In the first inning, Linder and Ryan Westbrook singled and scored on Finley's single to left.

Broome went up 4-0 in the second on Biershenk's single that scored Lee Gerwick and Linder's single that scored Biershenk.

The Wildcats battled back in the bottom of the second when Cameron Byars' double knocked in two runs.

Dustin Byars retired the Centurions in order in the fourth and got out of a jam in the fifth when Heath Hembree grounded out to shortstop.

The Wildcats threatened in the sixth but pinchrunner Rashad Earls was stranded at second.

Blacksburg left six runners on base.
