Gaffney BPW places second in occupational safety contest
Gaffney Police Chief John O'Donald (left) accepts on behalf of the Gaffney Board of Public Works the S.C. Municipal Insurance Trust Occupational Second-Place Safety Award. The South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust recognized the Gaffney Board of Public Works on Feb. 28 with an Occupational Safety Award for the third year in a row.
There are four divisions with three top winners in each division. Contestants are rated based on a formula that includes information about the number of hours employees work and the severity and frequency of incidences on the job.
Award winners receive an engraved plaque and firstplace winners receive $2,000 to purchase safety equipment and training for their municipal employees.
The winners in division four which covers public utilities are:
First place - Laurens Commission of Public Works
Second place - Gaffney Board of Public Works
Third Place - Greer Commission of Public Works
