Named to committee

Gaffney High senior William James has been named to the Ad Hoc Student Advisory Committee for the State Board of Education.

James is Beta Club president, serves on the Principal's Advisory Committee, and won the Coaches Award for boy's tennis. He is among 17 high school students statewide selected to serve on the committee.

The students met with board members for the first time at an orientation session on March 13.

The committee is one of several advisory panels to provide feedback on important education issues, legislation and policies.

Students are recommended for committee service by the State Board member who represents their judicial circuit. School principals and the student's parent or legal guardian must give permission to participate.

Students are excused from classes to attend committee and board meetings in Columbia during their one-year term.
