Brookview employees hope to bring nature inside to residents

In a society where the elderly are often put to the side and forgotten, left to wait out the rest of their lives in loneliness and boredom, Brookview Healthcare Center and its employees are striving to make a positive change. They want to make the last part of a resident's journey through life just as meaningful and rewarding as the first.

Since most of the residents are no longer able to get outside to appreciate nature, Brookview's employees are in the process of raising money to purchase a bird aviary that will bring a little of nature indoors.

The aviary will allow everyone to enjoy in the sights and sounds of the birds going about their daily activities. The aviary will be constructed of oak and Plexiglas and will contain colorful Gouldian Finches as well as Society Finches. Residents and staff will get to follow the growth of baby birds as they hatch and develop into adults and it will also be a wonderful conversation piece when residents' families visit.

Brookview hopes to have the aviary in place no later than the end of April.
