Indians win tri-meet

The Gaffney boys and girls track teams prepared for Tuesday's big meet with region rivals Spartanburg, Hillcrest and Boiling Springs with a dominating performance at Rock Hill last Thursday.

The Lady Indians swept the 1,600 and 3,200 meter events to beat Rock Hill and Indian Land. The Gaffney boys team improved to 5-1 with wins over Rock Hill and Indian Land.

Gaffney's Shane Phillips, Brian Makupson and Quincey Jackson finished first, second and third in the 400 hurdles.

Garrett Bridges, Darius Dawkins, Timmy Foster and Anthony Tyus won the 4x100 meter relay for the Indians.

Gaffney swept the 800 meters with Kennard Lipscomb finishing first, Antonio Lipscomb placing second and Cameron Scruggs finishing third.

Tyler Perkins joined Scruggs, Kennard Lipscomb and Antonio Lipscomb to win the 4x800 meter relay.

Eighth-grader Austin Steagall won the 3,200 for the Indians.

The Indians also dominated the field events with Darius Dawkins winning the shot put and discus, Tron Brannon capturing the triple jump and Mark Tate placing first in the long jump.

in the girls competition, Tiffany Posey won the discus and shot put and Lacy Gardner placed first in the triple jump for Gaffney.

The Lady Indians also shined in the relay events.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Shamaka Adams, Quiana Gibbs, Terkarra Good and Amiah Thompson finished first, while Holly Wolfe, Angel Freyta, Hanna Freyta and Sara Belue placed first in the 4x800 meter relay event.

Angel Freyta, Caroline Gordon and Ashley Perkins finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 1,600 meters.

Wolfe also won the 800 meters and Angel Freyta, Gordon, Jessie Wynn and Laura Simmerson swept the 3,200 meters.
