Nationally-ranked Patriots pound Limestone

The Francis Marion Patriots showed Wednesday why they are nationally-ranked with an 11-1 win over visiting Limestone.

The Saints' lone run came in the sixth inning when Phillip Soden doubled to score Daniel Lydon.

The Patriots broke a scoreless tie with two runs each in the third and fourth innings.

Francis Marion seized the momentum for good with a six-run sixth inning.

The Patriots capped their scoring with a single tally in the eighth.

Brad Sommerville got the win for the No. 29- ranked Patriots, who improve to 26-14. Limestone starter Chris Zimmerman was tagged with the loss.

Clayton Knight, Jeremy Riggs and Evan Denton also pitched for Francis Marion.

The Saints mustered just six hits. Zach Watkins had two hits while Lydon, Soden and Joey Asis had the other hits.

The Saints also committed two errors.

Limestone returns to conference action today with a doubleheader against Mount Olive. The opener will begin at noon. Saturday's game begins at 1 p.m.
