Alcohol bill passed

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Minors charged with alcoholrelated offenses could get their charges dismissed by completing an education and community service program under legislation passed Thursday by a Senate panel.

The bill, passed by the House last month, now moves to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The program is open to youth ages 17 to 21 charged with crimes including open container, possession of beer and possessing an altered driver's license. Enrollees pay a $250 fee and must complete eight hours of alcohol education and 20 hours of community service over at least 60 days.
