Less than 12 hours after 32-yearold Chauncey Lamout Wilson was killed, police arrested the man they believe fired the shot that killed him.

Detective Sgt. Billy Odom of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Talvin "T.J." Jefferson Johnson, 21, of 311 W. 3rd St., Gaffney, with murder and 1stdegree burglary.

Wilson, of 407 1/2 Oak St., Gaffney, died at Berkeley Apartments, 201 Chandler Drive, Gaffney, after suffering a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police responded to the apartment complex at 4:20 a.m. Monday and found the door to the apartment partially opened. Wilson was found laying directly behind the door.

A female and a child were inside the home when the shooting occurred but were not hurt, Gaffney Police Chief John O'Donald said.

O'Donald said Johnson was arrested after police talked with witnesses. Johnson's family brought him to the police department where he was questioned. Police said they recovered items tying Johnson to the murder during a subsequent search.

When Johnson was confronted with the items recovered by police, he admitted to the shooting, O'Donald said.
