KINGS MOUNTAIN - Matthew Lewis ("Spanky") Watkins, 38, of 700 Harmon Road, died Friday, April 20, 2007, in Kings Mountain Hospital.

A native of C h e r o k e e County, he was the son of the late L.D. Ross and the late Maggie Watkins Ross. He was a member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jason Watkins of Gaffney and Antonio Watkins of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Kensee Blair of Shelby; three brothers, Lawrence Watkins, Dennis Watkins, both of Gaffney, and Randy Watkins of Blacksburg; one grandchild; and his stepmother, Ruby Ross of Shelby.

Services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mikes Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sammy Leach. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends before the funeral at 3:30 p.m.

The family is at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Sheila Watkins, 500 W. Race St., Gaffney.
