Police said the April Fool's Day armed robbery of Eastside Saveway has turned out to be staged.

Four Gaffney residents, including the employee who reported the incident, have been arrested in connection with what police described as a bogus robbery at the convenience store at 302 Wilkinsville Hwy., Gaffney.

Detective Lt. David Clary of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Terry Lynn Guthrie, 46, of 526 Cherokee Falls Road, Vickie Shehan Cobb, 46, of 120 Brookwood Lane, Joyce Ann Bolin, 34, and Horace David Bishop, 59, both of 112 Eastview Drive, with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Guthrie also has been charged with armed robbery. Police said they believe the four were going to share the money.

Clary said the investigation is ongoing and more warrants might be issued.

Cobb told police she was locking the ice machine outside the store just after 7 p.m. when a white man approached her and threatened to kill her while he held a knife to her throat, according to an incident report filed at the Gaffney Police Department. She said the man forced her inside the store and took cash, a video cassette recorder and tape.

Cobb was transported to Upstate Carolina Medical Center by ambulance so she could be examined for an injury.

The Cherokee County Bloodhound Tracking Team also responded to search for the alleged suspect but the dogs were unable to pick up a scent.
