Gaffney well represented at state qualifier
JAMES DAVIS The Gaffney High track team didn't exactly run away from its competition at the region track meet. But it will be well represented at the state qualifier Saturday at Spring Valley High School.
More than 20 members of the Gaffney track team will be competing at the state qualifier.
"I'm very happy," Gaffney boys track coach James Davis said. "We had some of our young guys step up."
The Gaffney boys team finished fourth overall at the region meet.
Kennard Lipscomb qualified in three events, including the 800 meters and 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams. He'll be joined on the 4x400 meter relay team by Timmy Foster, Antonio Lipscomb and Darius Dawkins. Brian Makupson, Antonio Lipscomb, Tyler Perkins and Kennard Lipscomb will compete in the 4x800 meter relay event.
Garrett Bridges, Foster, Justin Roberts and Dawkins qualified in the 4x100 meter relay.
Dawkins also advanced to the state qualifier in the shot put, while Denzell Good earned his trip to Spring Valley with a fourth-place showing in the discus.
The top five in each event advanced to the state qualifier.
In the girls' competition, Tiffany Posey captured the region championship with a first-place finish in the discus. She also finished fifth in the shot put.
Sara Belue, Holly Wolfe, Hanna Freyta and Angel Freyta qualified in the 4x800 meter relay, while Amiah Thompson, Shamaka Adams, Quiana Gibbs and Terkerra Good will be participating in the state qualifier in the 4x400 meter relay.
Gibbs, Adams, Thompson will team with Quantisha Chamberlain to run in the 4x100 meter relay Saturday at Spring Valley.
The top eight finishers in each event Saturday will advance to the state championship.
