Sales tax going up June 1

      That shopping spree will soon cost you a little more. Beginning June 1, the state's sales tax will increase to six cents on the dollar, up a penny from the current rate. The increase was passed by the state Legislature last year as part of property tax relief reform.

Household water well system loan program created
The loans have a one percent interest rate and a 20-year repayment term. A maximum of $8,000 per household may be borrowed under this program.
      ROANOKE, Va. - Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project Inc. has announced it has received $988,100 from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development to create a loan program for homeowners needing to repair or construct water wells for their residences.
