Absher, Fisher perform Saturday at Kings Mountain Military Park

R.G. Absher and Laurie Fisher will be performing Early American and Celtic music throughout the day on Saturday, May 12, at Kings Mountain National Military Park.

The musical program will combine traditional and contemporary Scottish and Irish folk tunes with those of traditional American acoustic forms.

Absher, a talented musician, will use instruments such as the Irish fiddle, hammer dulcimer, guitar and banjo to describe the influence of the Scotch-Irish on the musical traditions from the 18th century until today. Through music, song and narration, the program will reveal the role of the Scotch-irish upon the birth of the young nation.

Fisher, of Swannanoa, N.C., will accompany Absher. She plays the fiddle and Irish percussion instruments and is a well-known player in English contra dance circles throughout the region.

In addition to the music program, the park's Backcountry militia will be presenting demonstrations on skills necessary to survive it the 18th century backcountry.

There is no admission charge. For more information, call the park at 864-936-7921.
