Limestone College names Ron Owenby honorary alumnus

Ron Owenby Ron Owenby Limestone College named long-time friend and well-known radio personality Ron Owenby of Gaffney as an honorary alumnus during the Alumni Reunion Weekend awards ceremony on April 21 in Stephenson Dining Hall. Recipients of this honor, established in 1978, are non-alumni who have exhibited outstanding service and dedication to Limestone College and to their community.

A long-time radio broadcaster and civic leader, Owenby is the voice of the Cherokee County community. He was one of the initial supporters of Limestone athletics and helped to organize the men's basketball team and served as first president of the Saints Club. He is best known as one of the hosts of the radio show "Carolina in the Morning," where members of the Limestone family have the pleasure of sitting down with him for the college's weekly segment "Limestone This Morning."

Owenby is president of the Cherokee County Arts Council and a member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Gaffney Rotary Club. He has also been president of the South Carolina Jaycees, served on the Red Cross Board, the Bi-Centennial Board and the Cherokee County Development Board. He was recently given the Cherokee County President's Award for Outstanding Service to the Chamber and Community.
