I-85 lanes to be closed for sign installation

Traffic Control Devices, Inc., announces the following lane closures in Cherokee County between 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, and 7 a.m., Friday, May 11:

Along Interstate 85 north of Gaffney at mile marker 95, the right lane will be closed in both southbound and northbound directions

At I-85 southbound near Blacksburg at mile marker 101, the right lane will be closed. At I-85 northbound at mile marker 101, the left lane will be closed. Periodic, brief roadblocks will occur at each location.

The lane closures are necessary for the installation of Dynamic Message Signs (DMS). When activated, these signs will relay electronic messages from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to motorists concerning traffic conditions to help improve traffic management and safety.

The signs, which are 26 feet wide and 8 feet tall, will be activated in approximately one to two months, according to SCDOT traffic engineers.
