Relay for Life

The public is invited to attend the 2007 event at the Timken track on Hwy. 29 beginning at 7 p.m.on Friday, May 11 and ending Saturday, May 12 at 7 a.m. Relay For Life is the signature fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and features activities, vendors, and entertainment for the entire family. Please...no pets, tobacco or alcohol products. In preparation of this weekend's Relay For Life, organizers are holding "Bank Day" on Thursday at the Palmetto Bank on South Limestone Street in Gaffney.
Anyone who has raised money for the Relay is encouraged to turn those donations in between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Cherokee County's Relay is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday at the Timken Field off Highway 29. The event begins with opening ceremonies and the singing of the national anthem.
The survivor's lap will be held at 7:20 p.m. followed by the team lap at 7:45 p.m. The luminary service will be held at 8:45 p.m. and feature bagpipe musician Dave McKenzie.
Teams are asked to turn off all generators at their sites during opening ceremonies and the luminary service so people can hear the national anthem and observe a moment of silence.
The popular Relay scavenger hunt is scheduled for 1 to 2:30 a.m. at the event site.
Other entertainment includes "Dancing with the Stars" which will tentatively include dance teams of state Senator Harvey Peeler and Rachel Adams; Gaffney Mayor Henry Jolly and Amber Spaine; the Relay's Jackie Drake and Charles Chitty; and Mike and Charlene Clary.
There will also be performances by the bluegrass group Campground Boys, Classic Cheer, the R and B Shag Club, and Kids Dancing for the Cure with Coltin, Brady and Kalin Ellis, along with Eva Wellmon. Johnny McCraw, Michelle Maness, Ed and Ann Peeler, and Ernest and Terry Bennett will be performing.
No pets, alcohol or tobacco will be permitted at the family friendly event, which is open to everyone.
