Talley appointed interim director of Cherokee Technology Center

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

Cherokee Technology Center administrator Dr. Harold Talley will serve as the school's interim director for the remainder of the school year.

Director Ray Bedford died suddenly last week while meeting with school administrators to discuss his plans for next school year. Bedford was finishing his first year as director and had spent 22 years as the school's job placement coordinator.

Superintendent Dr. Bill James asked school trustees to appoint Talley as interim director. Talley has been the school's assistant director for the past 10 years.

At Tuesday's meeting, school trustees approved a $4,500 salary increase for Talley to compensate him for his additional duties as interim director.

Cherokee Technology Center faculty and staff have established a scholarship in Bedford's honor. The scholarship will be awarded annually and will be given for the first time at the school's awards day ceremony May 15.

The scholarship recipient will be an outstanding Cherokee Technology Center senior who plans to continue their education.

Anyone who wishes to contribute to the Ray Bedford Memorial Scholarship Fund should make contributions payable to: Cherokee Technology Center, 3206 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, SC 29340.
