Upscale apartment complex to be built near SCC campus

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Gaffney City Council approved an annexation request Monday for a proposed upscale apartment complex on Whelchel Road.

The 9.2-acre site adjacent to Spartanburg Community College's branch campus has been rezoned from single family residential to multifamily residential.

Jeff Harmon submitted the rezoning request for the development of the 114-unit complex.

Harmon said the apartment complex will feature a swimming pool and clubhouse.

Harmon's company has built similar apartment complexes in Spartanburg, Greer and Anderson.

The 1- 2- and 3-bedroom units will be constructed of brick and vinyl, he said.

Harmon said the units will be leased at the market rate.

Harmon said construction should begin in late June.
