Gaffney High hosts

sports combine

About 500 athletes are expected to participate June 2 in the Cherokee County Sports Combine at W.K. Brumbach Stadium.

The sports combine schedule is 9- 11 a.m. (ages 7-12) and 1-3 p.m. (ages 13-18.) Pre-registration is $15 until May 18. On-site registration is $20. A portion of the proceeds will go to charity.

Professional certified NASE Speed and Explosion Trainers and coaches will be on hand for the "Next Level" Training offered to youths ages 7-18. All athletes need to bring cleats, running shoes and sports wear.

Activities will include combine tests in the 40-yard dash, one on ones, pro agility shuttle, vertical and broad jump.

Professional players and Gaffney High alumni will be on hand for the event. Each athlete in the combine will receive a t-shirt and certificate of participation.

Prizes include a raffle of autographed jerseys from Sidney Rice, Rocky McIntosh and Brad Hoover. There will be concessions and a free fun time for all children 6 and under.

banquet May 10

The Cherokee Spartanburg Union county spring IPTAY banquet will be held Thursday, May 10 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. The social will be at 5:30 p.m., food lines open at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Head football coach Tommy Bowden will be the featured speaker. Coach Shaka Smart from men's basketball will also speak.

Tickets are $15 for Clemson Club members, $20 for non members, and $5 for children 12 and under.

Saints in eighth

place after 2 rounds

After posting a 343 on Monday, The Limestone men's golf team shot a second round 331 at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tuesday. The Saints are eighth in the 8-team field.

Belmont Abbey leads with a 314- 317 - 631.

On the individual leaderboard, Paul Butler shot an 83-82 to lead the Saints.
