State's best head to sports complex

      Some of the top 11 and-12-year-old baseball players in the state will be traveling to Gaffney this week. Beginning Tuesday, the Cherokee County Youth Sports Complex will be the site of the Cal Ripken League all star state tournament for 11 and 12 year olds.

      Maybe Post 109 won't miss ace Justin Sarratt so much after all. Jordan Propst turned in another solid performance, striking out five and allowing just eight hits as visiting Post 109 beat Hillcrest, 13-3, on Saturday for its third straight win.

      Gaffney basketball coach Mark Huff liked what he saw from his team at the Lander University team camp. The three Gaffney teams compiled a 21-3 overall record. Gaffney No. 1 and Gaffney No. 2, which were made up of returning varsity and junior varsity players, finished with a combined record of 14-3.

Oregon State ended one of the most dominant runs in the 61-year history of the College World Series with a 9-3 victory over North Carolina on Sunday night.
