DSS takes children following drug arrests
Two children were placed in emergency protective custody after police arrested a woman on drug charges, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.
Gaffney Officer Nathan Walker has charged Tammy Payne Dawkins, 24, of 100 Victoria Lane, and Britt Tipton Fox, 40, of 1105 College Drive, both of Gaffney, with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
The officer responded to Dawkins' home at 1:49 a.m. Saturday after receiving a complaint about illegal drug use and found Dawkins and Fox inside a gold-colored Ford Explorer. When Walker approached the vehicle, he saw an open beer besides Dawkins' seat, the report states.
When Fox exited the passenger side of the vehicle, police noticed a plastic bag containing a white powder on the passenger-side floor board. Officers searched the vehicle and found three more bags containing cocaine, a wooden box containing marijuana on the floor and a marijuana cigarette in the console, according to the report.
Fox said the wooden container was his, police said. Dawkins told police that Fox bought and gave her the "joint," but she denied ownership of the remainder of the drugs, the report states.
Officers seized $125 cash from the console of the vehicle.
Two children, ages 1 and 4, were asleep inside Dawkins' home. Police said they contacted DSS and placed the children in emergency protective custody.
