Hetty Hill project closer to reality

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

The long-awaited Hetty Hill Street Sidewalk project soon will be taking another step forward.

The city will open bids for the project July 25.

The project calls for the construction of 4,200 feet of sidewalk from Colonial Drive to Woodlawn Drive.

The project will be funded with a $176,000 state Department of Transportation Enhancement grant. The grant requires a 20 percent match by the city.

Councilman Bernard Smith has said the project is needed because of the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians on Hetty Hill Street.

The city will also be accepting bids July 25 for phase I of the McCluney Park project.

The park is located on a 6.9-acre tract on Hetty Hill and Granite Drive.

Phase I includes the construction of a parking lot and sidewalk as well as grading.
