Laura Ellen Huffstetler
GASTONIA, N.C. - Laura Ellen Northey Huffstetler, 87, of 3119 Union Road, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at her residence.
A native of Cherokee Falls, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Jenkins Northey.
Ellen was a member of Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker until her boys were of school age, then she went to work in the cafeteria at Robinson School. She loved to cook and her specialties were fresh coconut cake and fried pies. She and her late husband, Lenox, were the owners of Huffstetler Oil Company. After retirement, she worked at Camp Thunderbird at Lake Wylie, where in her early 80s she was back in the cafeteria doing what she loved - cooking and feeding children.
Surviving are sons, Eddie Joe Huffstetler and wife, Mozelle, of Gastonia and Wayne Huffstetler and wife, Phyllis, of Belleview, Fla.; a grandson, Eddie Joe Huffstetler Jr. of Gastonia; a granddaughter, Kim Bradley and husband, Doug, of Gastonia; two great-grandsons, Eric and Adam Bradley of Gastonia; a sister, Pauline Holmes of Blacksburg; and a special niece, Laura Ann Parker and husband, Bobby, of Gaffney.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Teague, Belle Moss and Jessie Barkley, and a brother, Grady Northey.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Founder's Chapel at McLean Funeral Directors, conducted by Pastor John Stanley. Interment will be in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Mclean Funeral Directors of Gastonia and at other times at the home.
