Former player named new golf coach Last year, Todd Coggins was an unpaid Gaffney High jayvee golf coach. Not anymore. Gaffney High athletic director Phil Strickland announced that Coggins has been hired as the new Gaffney High golf coach. Coggins was a member of the Gaffney High golf team and also played collegiately, Strickland said. "Todd is a good fit with our program," Strickland said. "He's very knowledgeable about the game. Last year, he worked for nothing as our jayvee coach." Coggins replaces former Gaffney High varsity golf coach Mark Ireton, who resigned to become the new varsity basketball coach at Woodruff High School. In other coaching news, Strickland has rounded out his football coaching staff with the hiring of former Crest High standout Jeff Allen. Allen, who played collegiately at Elon, will either be a member of the ninth grade or javyee football staffs, Strickland said. A vacancy was created when longtime coach Cameron Brooks left the staff this spring. Allen fills the spot left by jayvee coach Marcus Bradley, who replaced Brooks on the varsity. |
