Jane L. Cook
Gaffney native
Jane Elizabeth LeMaster Cook, 89, wife of George F. Cook of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away on July 4, 2007.
Mrs. Cook, daughter of the late George W. LeMaster and Sallie Wilkes LeMaster, was born in Gaffney. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Limestone College. Following her college graduation, she taught school for several years and then worked for many years in the finance department at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Ga. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she worked for the U.S. Government in the Office of U.S. Army Engineers and retired after 30 years.
Mrs. Cook was an active and devoted member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities over the years. She was a volunteer with the Baptist Medical Center Auxiliary for over 26 years and accumulated over 15,000 hours of service. She was president of the Baptist Auxiliary in 1990. Mrs. Cook was recognized many times for her devotion to the hospital. In honor of Mrs. Cook, the auxiliary presented a $1,500 scholarship to a deserving nursing student at the University of North Florida.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband of 47 years, George F. Cook of Jacksonville and two sisters, Alice L. Summers (Mrs. Thomas K.) of Union and Emma L. Jeffries (Mrs. Fred. J.) of Wakegan, Ill. She had five nieces, four great nieces and one great-nephew.
Services were held at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church on July 9, 2007, with Dr. Kyle Reese officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
