WHAT'S UP Concerts World Champion and British National Champion Smithhills School Senior Brass Band of Bolton, England, will perform a free public concert on Tuesday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Malcom Brown Auditorium at Shelby High School. The band will be in Gaffney on July 31 where they will visit the outlet mall and journey to Blacksburg to tour Kings Mountain National Battlefield. Revivals Grassy Pond Baptist Church will have revival services Aug. 5- 9. The revival will begin with the 11 a.m. service Sunday. Evening service will be at 7 p.m. The Rev. Ronnie Bishop will be guest evangelist and special music will be presented each night. A native of Blacksburg, Rev. Bishop is founder and president of SCORE International, an international ministry that sends adults and youth throughout the world to spread the Christian gospel. Greater Buck Shoals Baptist Church will hold a revival Monday, July 30, through Wednesday, Aug. 1. All services will begin at 7 p.m. Pastor Troy McDowell Sr. will be the main speaker at Monday's revival. Pastor Terry Clark from Charlotte will speak on Tuesday. Bishop Paul Borders of Shelby, N.C., will be the guest speaker Wednesday. Special music will be performed by the New Jerusalem Baptist Mass Choir, Capri Brown and the Tri- umphant Voices and the Great Buck Shoals Baptist Church choir. The Buck Shoals choir is under the direction of Limestone College graduate Troy McDowell Jr., the pastor's son. Special events The annual Blacksburg Street Dance will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, from 8-10:30 p.m. The dance is being sponsored by the Town of Blacksburg and the stage will be located across from the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department. |
