BRIEFS Booster Club seeks new members The deadline for renewals of Gaffney High Football Booster Club memberships has expired. A limited number of applications is being accepted for new memberships. If you are interested in being a GHS football booster for the upcoming season, contact president Don Bridges at 761-6053, or submit a membership application. The booster club will sell official tribe wear for the season. Designed by club board members Gene Phillips and Larry Teague, the shirts are made of a moisture management material. The selection is manufactured by Pro Celebrity and is first class piece of apparel. To purchase shirts in advance of the season, contact Phillips at 489-1660 or 490-0029 or Bridges at 761-6053. Shirt prices are: white trimmed in gold $40, gold trimmed in white $40, gold with white stripes $45 and crew type $25. Granard football practice begins Aug. 8 Granard Middle School football practice will begin on Aug. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. Players need to complete a physical form from their doctors. The forms are at the school's office. Gamecock Club meeting Aug. 14 The Cherokee Gamecock Club fall banquet is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Stephenson Dining Hall at Limestone. Tony Morrell, recruiting analyst, will be the guest speaker. A drawing for two season tickets and an auction for six season tickets, as well as away games, will be held. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased by Aug. 7. Tickets can be bought at Sub Station II, Harold's Restaurant and Hank Jolly's office, or by calliing Mike Phillips 488-3730, Ed Poole 489-8746 or Randy Hammett 489-3839. Gaffney High football tickets on sale Gaffney High School reserved season football tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 6 through Aug. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to those persons who were season ticket holders last year. Those ticket holders will have first priority in purchasing the 2007 reserved tickets during this week. Beginning Monday, Aug. 13 through Friday, Aug. 17, tickets will go on sale to the general public. Tickets may be purchased that week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. There are five home games this season and the reserved ticket prices will be $6 per game. The total price for each set of season tickets is $30. This year's ticket holders will have first priority on reserve tickets in the new stadium. Tickets will be sold upstairs in the attendance office. Ex-player named BHS assistant Former Blacksburg player Josh Batchelor has joined the football coaching staff this season. Batchelor played strong safety on the 2002 team that went undefeated in the regular season. He will coach defensive backs on the junior varsity and help varsity assistant coaches Mitch Rice and Coby Peeler on the defensive staff. "We are real excited to have Josh. He is a great guy with great character," Blacksburg coach Robbie Blanton said. "He has been around our football program alot and will be able to help us out." Batchelor has been recommended for a physical education teaching position, pending school board approval. |
