Rice inks 4-year deal Former Gaffney High great Sidney Rice missed the first day of Minnesota Viking training camp. But that was all he missed after he agreed to a four-year deal Friday evening. Rice reported to Minnesota State-Mankato, the site of the Vikings training camp, after signing the deal. Terms of Rice's deal weren't disclosed. But University of Southern California wide receiver Dwyane Jarrett, who was taken one spot after Rice, received a four-year, $3.825 million deal, including a $1.9 million in guaranteed bonuses and incentives. Rice was the 44th overall selection in April's NFLdraft. As a redshirt freshman for South Carolina, Rice earned first team All-SEC and third team All-America honors after catching 70 passes for 1,143 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last year, he was second team All-SEC and third team All-America after his 72 catches for 1,090 yards and 10 touchdowns. Rice, a 2004 Gaffney High graduate, was an all-state selection in football and basketball for the Indians. He led the Indians to the 2003 Class 4A Big 16 football championship and two consecutive Class 4A basketball titles. |
