Narcotics officers seized approximately 29 grams of crack cocaine during a S.C. Highway Patrol driver's license checkpoint Thursday at Twin Bridge Road and Old Post Road in Gaffney, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states.

Captain David Oglesby of the Cherokee County Metro Narcotics Unit has charged Robert Anthony Tate, 28, of Spindale, N.C., and Rodriguez Brown, 36, of Bostic, N.C., with trafficking crack cocaine and an open container violation. Brown has also been charged with driving under the influence and driving without a valid driver's license. They both remain at the Cherokee County Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Oglesby met with Trooper Steve Mueller of the Highway Patrol at 2 a.m. after Mueller noticed a small bag of white powder in the passenger-side floor of the vehicle, according to the report. The trooper also observed two open containers of beer in the vehicle.

Four small bags of crack cocaine found in the vehicle were seized, police said.

In a separate incident, Oglesby charged Robert Wayne Humphries II, 21, of 139 Ashmore Ave., Gaffney, with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half mile of a school, 2nd offense driving under the influence and 1st offense driving under suspension. He remains jailed in lieu of $19,000 bond.

Oglesby was contacted by S.C. Highway Patrolman Jamie Green after the trooper found a bag containing several plastic bags of marijuana, empty plastic bags, and a set of scales, another report at the sheriff's office states. That bag was located inside the dashboard of Humphries' vehicle, which Green had stopped at Highways 329 and 29 at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Narcotics agent Richard Burgess II has charged Michael Gist, 24, of 118 Oak Ridge Drive, Gaffney, with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of oxycodone. He remains at the detention center.

Agents executed a search warrant at Gist's home Thursday and found approximately five grams of crack cocaine in a plastic bag and a pill container. Police also located three pills of oxycodone, a separate report at the sheriff's office states.

Agent Jerry Smith has charged Angela D. Short, 29, of 144 Boyd Floyd Drive, Gaffney, with trafficking methamphetamine (ice) and possession of alprazolam (Xanax). She remains at the Cherokee County Detention Center in lieu of $53,000 bond. James D. Blanton, 35, of 1062 Hamrick St., Gaffney, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine (ice) and possession of marijuana. He remains jailed in lieu of $25,565 bond.

When agents arrived at Short's home to serve a search warrant at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, they found Short and Blanton in the living room, another report states. Officers said multiple bags of methamphetamine were found inside the residence, in Short's pocketbook and in Blanton's pants pocket. Police seized a total of approximately two grams of marijuana and more than 37 grams of methamphetamine, the report states.
