Mell Abercrombie Love

Taught school for several

years in Kings Creek area

BLACKSBURG - Mell Abercrombie Love, 100, of 131 Kings Creek Drive, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Summit Place Assisted Living in Kings Mountain, N.C.

Born in Laurens, she was the widow of Wesley Alexander Love and daughter of the late Leonard Claude Abercrombie and the late Melinda Knight Abercrombie. She was an active member of Canaan United Methodist Church, where she taught the Young Adults Class and the Ladies Bible class for many years. She was historian of the church and a charter member of the Ladies Bible Class.

Mrs. Love was honored with many festivities, including the City of Kings Mountain and the American Cancer Society for being a 26- year breast cancer survivor. For the past 22 months she had resided at Summit Place Assisted Living Center in Kings Mountain.

She attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill and taught school for several years in the Kings Creek area.She was also a recipient of a life membership in the South Carolina United Methodist Women Organization and was a member and past president of the Nineteenth Century Literary Club of Blacksburg.

She was also an active member of the Blacksburg Order of the Eastern Star and was honored with a special presentation of her 75- year membership pin.

Surviving are a son, William Abercrombie Love and wife, Elaine G. Love, of Kings Creek; a daughter, Jean Love Hambright and husband, Dr. Rufus R. Hambright,

of Beaufort, N.C.; grandchildren, Rufus R. Hambright Jr. of Greensboro,

N.C., Dr. Wesley F. Hambright and wife, Sherry. of Jacksonville, N.C., Robert Wesley Love of Kings Creek, and Ann Love Proctor and husband, Lee, of Chester; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Love was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Wesley Love.

Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Hyder. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service.

Pallbearers were Rufus R. Hambright Jr., Dr. Wesley F. Hambright, Robert Wesley Love, Robert Lee Proctor, Rick Love, Thomas Faulkner, Bobby Joe Westmoreland and James E. Wyatt.

The family is at the home of William A. Love, 137 Kings Creek Drive, Blacksburg.
